Transforming the management of public resources into a tool for positive impact on social, economic and environmental development.
Public procurement accounts for 20% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Given this magnitude, the integration of social, environmental, and ethical criteria into public procurement processes has transformative potential to promote equity, sustainability, and inclusive development. To address this need, the “Sustainable Communities: Comprehensive Services for Strategic Procurement” project was launched. Supported by the NextGenerationEU funds from the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Ministry of Labour, this project aims to help overcome the significant challenges faced by public administrations when incorporating sustainability principles into their procurement processes; due to regulatory complexity and a lack of specialized training. The goal is to transform public procurement into a more responsible and sustainability-driven practice, aligning with the National Public Procurement Strategy 2023-2026 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
B-Live, the project coordinator, together with FACTO COOP and IDEAS (Initiatives for Alternative and Solidarity Economy), have launched a series of activities to ensure the successful achievement of the project’s objectives, targeting Enterprises of Social and Solidarity Economy and Public Administrations. These activities include training trainers in Strategic Public Procurement (SPP), organizing events and spaces for knowledge exchange, and providing personalized advisory support for the implementation of best practices.
