Youth initiative in Murcia promoting sustainability and volunteering through urban gardens and animal welfare activities
At B-LIVE, we continue to believe in the power of youth to transform their surroundings. That’s why, with the support of the local government for youth participation in Murcia, we launched the project Raíces Verdes: huertos y cuidados. This initiative was born with a clear purpose: to foster the active involvement of local and European youth through hands-on experiences focused on sustainability, animal care, and the regeneration of community spaces.
Raíces Verdes is a youth-led initiative that promotes participation through sustainable, intercultural, inclusive, and animal-focused activities, while revitalizing community spaces in Murcia alongside partner social organizations.
The project is structured around three key actions, offering practical and transformative learning experiences:
1. Building Green
Where: CuatroNaranjos Active School, Murcia
When: July 2024
In this phase, young participants collaborate in building wooden planters and boxes for educational use, encouraging creativity, manual work, and ecological awareness from an early age.
2. Caring for Pawprints
Where: Fundación Centauro Quirón, Murcia
When: July 2024
Through the care of rescued animals (horses, cats, and dogs), we promote animal welfare and foster values like empathy, responsibility, and respect.
3. Planting the Future
Where: Huerto Verde Limón, Puente Tocinos
When: September 2024 – June 2025
Throughout the academic year, this community garden remains active, combining organic farming, cultural events, and outdoor environmental education.
At B-LIVE, we believe in:
This project is a clear example of how real transformation can happen at the local level — using simple tools and a lot of motivation.
This initiative would not be possible without the support of the Department of Youth Talent and Public Spaces of the City Council of Murcia, and the collaboration of organizations such as CuatroNaranjos Active School, Fundación Centauro Quirón, Huerto Urbano Verde Limón, and all the amazing young volunteers who brought it to life.
