I learned that I am more than I thought I was, that I can build things but also unmount them — Kerrian
What have you learned from this experience?
During this experience I learned that I am more than I thought I was, that I can build things but also unmount them, and that, either way, it can make me grow and develop in a better way. And I finally learned that I can find a place where I feel at home, surrounded by people who care about me and help me in my personal development.
What was your favorite activity or task here?
I think my favorite activity is hiking, although it is not really related to my volunteering, I felt that I had to talk about the diversity of landscapes that the Region of Murcia can offer, the well-being that I felt sharing these moments with other volunteers, just surrounded by nature, mountains, sea… a landscape which is sometimes very arid, but also very rich in biodiversity.
How do you feel that you have changed during this experience?
I feel that I am more mature, I have improved my communication skills, both on a personal and professional level. Now I am able to explore different activities without feeling the stress that I had before, like teaching at study camps, working in the countryside, welcoming people to events, selling drinks, but also immersing myself in personal projects that I can now lead from start to finish. I really feel that I have improved in many different ways and I am very grateful for that.
What did you like most about everyday life in Murcia?
That Murcia is a very cultural city, with events throughout the year, regardless of the season. Every week there is at least one event: concerts, dance shows, cultural festivals, special nights in bars… Every day is an opportunity to go out, see your friends or meet new people, broaden your circle and your knowledge of the world.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?
The meme that “Murcia does not exist” is just a meme, because Murcia does exist, and it really is worth visiting, exploring, discovering and living it.
